Pedestrian hit and killed at Jackson & Beckett in Chinatown this morning
6th pedestrian death in 6 weeks
San Francisco, Calif. – Walk SF learned from the San Francisco Police Department that two pedestrians were hit by a driver near the intersection of Jackson & Beckett Streets in the Chinatown neighborhood in District 3. One victim was pronounced deceased at San Francisco General Hospital. No additional information is available at this time
“Every pedestrian death is a tragedy. Our thoughts are with the victims’ family and loved ones,” said Jodie Medeiros, executive director for Walk San Francisco.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce is hosting a community meeting after this tragedy on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Victory Hall.
There have now been six pedestrians in San Francisco so far in 2026. The first pedestrian death in 2026 was a 76-year-old woman on February 3rd at Bayshore Boulevard & Silver Avenue in District 10. The second was a 47-year-old woman who was hit and killed at Bayshore Boulevard and Arleta Avenue on February 14th in District 10. The third was a two-year-old child who was hit and killed by a driver on February 27, 2026 at the intersection of 4th and Channel Streets in District 6. The fourth was a 42-year-old pedestrian who was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on March 5th at the intersection of Mission Street and Naglee Avenue in the Outer Mission neighborhood in District 11. The fifth was a 46-year-old pedestrian who was fatally struck on March 5th at Broadway and Kearny in the North Beach neighborhood in District 3.
The location of the fatal crash is a busy commercial corridor with high pedestrian foot traffic.
“We don’t need another person to die to show how urgently we need more solutions to protect pedestrians,” said Medeiros. “It’s also deeply troubling that we have people being hit and killed not just in the crosswalk but on the sidewalk.”
On March 5th, a 46-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a driver who jumped the curb at Broadway and Kearny in the North Beach neighborhood.
“Vehicles today are bigger, heavier, and can reach high speeds within seconds,” said Medeiros. “It’s a deadly combination for pedestrians.”
March 25th was the first deadline in Mayor Lurie’s Street Safety Initiative, which he signed on December 15, 2025.
“We’re glad Mayor Lurie is making safe streets a priority and has put oversight of traffic safety directly in his office,” said Medeiros. “Traffic safety is a multifaceted problem that requires a multi-layered approach,” said Medeiros.
