Walk & Bike to Worship Week
May 21, 2016 - May 29, 2016
This May, from Saturday, May 21 to Sunday, May 29, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, Walk San Francisco, the San Francisco Interfaith Council and leaders from local congregations are partnering to make this picture a reality by inviting congregants to participate in the 3rd Annual Walk & Bike to Worship Week.
Walk & Bike to Worship gives congregation and community members the opportunity to raise the visibility of walking, biking, and/or taking transit to worship to make communities safer and more pleasant places to live. Additionally, it’s a collective celebration that promotes physical activity, health, and safety for neighbors and the environment From free workshops to the Interfaith Ride, there are many ways congregations can get involved!
A highlight of the celebration will be the Annual Interfaith Ride on Sunday, May 22, where members of different congregations will ride together to visit different churches. Get your congregation involved – sign up today!

New this Year – for the first time, a self-guided Interfaith Walk has been added to welcome additional congregants, as well as members of the public.
Both the Interfaith Ride and the newly-added, self-guided Walk will start at Duboce Park at 1:00 p.m. Walkers will be invited to walk from Duboce Park at the corner of Steiner and Sanchez, where they will leave by heading south along Sanchez and crossing Market Street, to stop by four local congregations, some of which will be opening their doors to welcome walkers and riders to their places of worship. Highlights along the short, self-ed walk include:
- First Mennonite Church of San Francisco (290 Dolores Street, at 16th Street)
- Congregation Sha’ar Zahav (290 Dolores Street, at 16th Street)
- Misión San Francisco de Asís (3321 16th Street, at Dolores
The Interfaith Ride concludes at St. Francis Lutheran (152 Church Street) at 2:40 p.m., and walkers are welcome to be part of the special event blessing.

3rd Annual Interfaith Ride Sunday, May 22 from 1-2:40 p.m. Duboce Park (start) and St. Francis Lutheran (end) – 152 Church Street
Celebrate the environment, the community, and general health by joining likeminded citizens of different faiths to tour our beautiful city by bicycle! Last year we had over 40 riders and visited eight congregations. The Interfaith Ride welcomes people who bike from your congregation to ride together, visiting different faith communities around San Francisco, and ending in Golden Gate Park for a closing celebration. The purpose here is to celebrate the diversity of San Francisco’s faith communities. We’ll visit a variety of historic and architecturally interesting sites, hear from leaders and members, and enjoy a fun and freewheeling “bicycle liturgy” along the way. FREE RSVP For more information, contact Bonnie Walton at bonnie@sfbike.org
