The SF Stair Challenge

Save the date for the next SF Stair Challenge on Saturday, May 3, 2025!

5 miles. 2,000 steps. 100% pure fun!

Take on a unique, scenic physical challenge connecting some of San Francisco’s best stairways into one epic route!

About the SF Stair Challenge

Walk SF held the second SF Stair Challenge on May 4, 2024 through the Diamond Heights and Noe Valley neighborhoods. The first-ever Challenge explored North Beach, Russian Hill, and Telegraph Hill.

We had an overwhelmingly positive response to both events, which is why this is an annual event! (For a recap and photos of the 2024 SF Stair Challenge, check out our blog post.)

The 3rd Annual SF Stair Challenge will be on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The super secret route will be crafted again by our mastermind team of WalkLab volunteers and includes magnificent views and hidden gems, coming in around 5 miles with about 2,000 stair steps.

All proceeds from the SF Stair Challenge support Walk SF, a small nonprofit dedicated to making San Francisco the safest, most pedestrian-friendly city in the United States.

Wishing you had the routes?

We’ve had so many people reach out about the routes! We’re sorry to say that currently, only SF Stair Challenge ticket holders have the routes and we aren’t sharing them at this time.

But as a Walk SF member, you’ll get curated, do-it-yourself walks every few months in your inbox – plus early bird access and discounts to Peak2Peak and the 2025 SF Stair Challenge. We also regularly share walk ideas in our newsletter. So if you love walking, join our community!
