Help hold City employees accountable for dangerous speeds
Last month, we shared the disturbing takeaways from a new report analyzing data from devices installed in City vehicles (called telematics).
Excessive, recurring, and dangerous rates of speeding are happening in City vehicles driven by City employees. And nothing is being done with the data on speeding to curb this behavior. In fact, departments and agencies are minimally using telematics.
Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee, an incredible champion for pedestrians, is working to pass legislation that would be an important step toward greater accountability on speeding by City employees. We need you to urge members of the Land Use and Transportation Committee of the Board of Supervisors to move this legislation forward.
The legislation requires departments to send data to the City Administrator’s office monthly on speeding and collisions. And in May each year, the City Administrator will report to the Board of Supervisors this data. The legislation will also require departments to develop correction plans to reduce speeding and collisions.
This legislation will be discussed at the Monday, October 2 meeting of the Land Use and Transportation Committee of the Board of Supervisors, so please share your support ASAP!
