Our ‘I Love Safe Intersections’ campaign has launched – and needs your voice!

 In Uncategorized

Every day, an average of three people are hit while walking in San Francisco. The vast majority of these crashes happen in the intersection.

We all deserve to be safe when we’re crossing the streets. That’s why in January, Walk SF launched the ‘I Love Safe Intersections’ campaign. (We even have a zebra mascot.)

Our new campaign is all about winning more of the safety solutions needed to protect us in the intersection. Our top campaign priority is focused daylighting, which prevents one in three crashes by creating clear sightlines at intersections.

Since we launched the campaign, hundreds of you have sent emails to leaders at SFMTA in support of daylighting (thank you!).

These emails have asked SFMTA to paint daylighting at every intersection by the end of 2026, plus install posts in daylighting zones to prevent illegal parking at the most dangerous intersections by 2030 and create a program for people to add things like planters or murals in daylit spots.

The SFMTA has now stated a commitment to paint daylighting at every intersection by the end of 2026. That’s great news!

More than ever, we must show there’s a ton of support for daylighting – and that we’re all watching to be sure the SFMTA follows through on this.

Despite the significant safety benefits of daylighting, some people oppose it because of the loss of a very small percentage of street parking spaces. That’s why it’s so crucial we are loud and clear in saying that saving lives is more important.
