Ask your Supervisor to support expanding San Francisco’s speed camera program

 In Uncategorized

One year in, San Francisco’s speed cameras are proving an incredible success. The share of drivers speeding 10 MPH or more is down nearly 80% across camera locations, and about two-thirds of drivers who have received a warning or citation did not get another one.

But the current speed camera law only allows cameras at 33 locations – a far cry from what’s needed given how prevalent dangerous speeding is (which camera data also shows).

District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey introduced a resolution at the Board urging the City to pursue expanding the program. We applaud Supervisor Dorsey for getting the ball rolling. There’s no time to waste given the lives at stake every day. It’s easier than ever for drivers to dangerously accelerate, and too often, they do. With vehicles bigger and heavier, speeding is even more likely to kill.

We want every Supervisor to support Supervisor Dorsey’s resolution.

So join us in showing support during public comment at the Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee hearing for this resolution on Thursday, July 9 at 10:00AM.

After the hearing on July 9, the resolution will then go to the full Board of Supervisors for a vote. Let’s make sure it’s unanimous!
