Peak2Peak 2023: We climbed, we conquered, we celebrated (PHOTOS!)

 In Uncategorized

It’s a wrap, folks! The 19th Annual Peak2Peak is in the books and it was an epic day that checked all the boxes: perfect weather, an unforgettable route, spectacular views, and bands of intrepid walkers that conquered each and every peak.

A route to rave about

This year’s route traversed 10 city peaks over 10 miles and started from Garfield Square in the Mission. It was a mixtape of San Francisco’s greatest hits with timeless classics, like Twin Peaks and Alamo Square, but also fresh jams, like the Bernal Cut and Vulcan Stairway. Even long-time residents were wowed with new surprises – the ultimate seal of approval. At the finish line in Hayes Valley, participants traded high fives and were rewarded with frosty pints at the après-hike celebration at Biergarten.

More than 300 rose to the challenge

We had everyone from father-daughter dynamic duos to work colleagues teaming up for a day of adventure. We also had solo participants who started the day alone and ended it with new friends. We even had a first date! Who knew you could swipe right at Peak2Peak!

A love letter to San Francisco

But San Francisco, you stole the show. The event reminded us of everything we adore about you: the people, streets, hills, architecture, history, parks, the list goes on. Forget the gloomy reports, your vibrancy and diversity have not faded away, but are very much alive and kicking.

Walking for safer streets

While we were enjoying the day, we remembered that every day, an average of three people are hit while walking in San Francisco. Walk SF exists to change this, and all ticket purchases go directly to our work to make our streets truly safe for everyone who walks, of every age and ability!

FOMO alert: Don’t miss next year’s Peak2Peak, and the SF Stair Challenge on May 4, 2024

We promise the 2024 Peak2Peak will be a new, secret route that’s still super fun and amazing – we’ve got some surprises up our sleeves! And you can already mark your calendar for our other signature walk event, the SF Stair Challenge on May 4, 2024.

So many thank you’s are in order

We must give a massive shoutout to the heroes of Peak2Peak – our volunteers. They breezed participants through check in, served snacks and lunch to keep everyone fueled up, and rolled up their sleeves to set up and break down the event.

Big thanks to our awesome walk leaders who safely guided our groups through the route.

We are ever grateful to WalkLab, the volunteers who design all our signature walks, especially Karen Rhodes who created the 2023 Peak2Peak route.

Also, thanks to our fabulous in-kind sponsors: Andronico’s Community Markets, Arizmendi Bakery, Gus’s Community Market, JAMBAR, Liquid Death, and OCHO Candy.

With very special recognition to Radio Africa for knocking it out of the park again with their delectable sandwiches for lunch. Also to Biergarten for hosting our end party and supplying drinks – drop by their Oktoberfest for more beers, music, and food, September 28 through October 8!

And finally, we’re deeply grateful to our sponsors for their incredibly generous support of Walk SF’s events. (Contact Guy at guy@walksf.org if you’re already interested in sponsoring our 2024 events!)
