Big & small ways you can help pass Measure J to protect the JFK Promenade

 In Uncategorized

There are less than two weeks until Election Day. We have a list of the top ways you can help save car-free JFK!

On November 8, San Francisco voters will decide the fate of the 1.5 miles of safe, healthy space on JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park that was created early in the pandemic. Although city leaders voted to make this space permanent in April, it’s now on the ballot in response to an opposing measure – Measure I. Measure I would take away what’s now called ‘JFK Promenade’ (among other things). Read the details at Walk SF’s voter guide.

We are counting on everyone who loves car-free space in Golden Gate Park to help get the word out to vote YES on J, YES on N, and NO on I. Here’s how:

1. Hang a window sign at your home. Even better: go to businesses in your neighborhood and ask them to post a sign.

You can pick up signs in English, Chinese, and Spanish on JFK Promenade Fridays 3PM – 6PM, Saturdays 10AM – 1PM, and Sundays 10AM – 1PM. Contact Nick at nick@walksf.org if you need to arrange a different pickup time/location.

2. Change your name and photo on social media to support the campaign.

Add ‘Yes on J, Yes on N, No on I’ to your name and make the graphic right below your profile photo. Then download the ‘Yes on J’ and ‘No on I’ campaign logos at the bottom of the page to share.

3. Be part of a door knocking team on weekday nights leading up to Election Day.

Canvassing is more fun together! And to thank you for helping out, we’ll take you for drinks and appetizers after. Sign up for a shift. You can also sign up in the same form to do visibility right before and on Election Day. ‘Visibility’ means holding a sign at a high-traffic area or near a polling location. We’ll be doing phone banking on Election Night; after we’ll head to a mid-Market bar at 8PM with the whole campaign.

4. Knock on the doors of 60 neighbors who live right near you.

Sign up to get details and supplies. If all of us do this, imagine how many people we’ll reach!

5. Volunteer on JFK Promenade and events all around the city.

Walk SF leads shifts on Fridays from 3PM – 6PM and Sundays from 10AM – 1PM on JFK, plus on additional dates and at the Thursday evening Mission farmer’s market. Sign up with Walk SF here. Want even more options to volunteer? Go to the Safe Parks for All volunteer page.

6. Invite friends to come experience JFK Promenade with you.

There’s nothing like experiencing this safe, car-free, joyful space to understand why it’s so important for our city. Tell them why you’re supporting Measure J and ask them to join you. There will be special events happening on JFK Promenade all fall as part of the #GoldenMileProject

And we’re organizing a final Prop J rally on the Promenade Saturday, November 5 at 10AM, so get the details and RSVP!

7. Email, text, and talk to your friends and neighbors.

Tell them your story: why JFK Promenade means so much to you and how you’ll feel if it goes away. Talk about why it supports our climate, health, and safety. Remind them to vote as Election Day nears. Share the San Francisco Chronicle’s endorsement of Prop J and why the Chronicle says to vote No on I. Share the many accessibility improvements that have been added to Golden Gate Park.

We know this election will be incredibly close. We’re counting on the community of people who love JFK Promenade – you are how we will win.
