Citywide Traffic Calming
We want every street in San Francisco to be designed to accommodate human error, which is inevitable, and to naturally encourage safe driving. That’s why we’re advocating for system-wide traffic calming solutions on all streets.
What does traffic calming look like? In some places, it’s fewer or narrower traffic lanes, which encourages slower and more cautious driving. Sometimes it’s speed humps, raised crosswalks or intersections, bulb-outs, and traffic circles. A more cutting-edge approach is designing intersections to slow down vehicles that are making left turns, a traffic maneuver known to be deadly for people walking.
