Dear Assembly Speaker Rendon and Appropriations Chair Gonzalez, I’m writing to share my deep disappointment that AB 550 (Speed Safety System Pilot Program) did not make it out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee. More than 1,000 Californians are killed and tens of thousands severely injured in speed-related crashes every year. And dangerous speeds are on the rise. There’s no time to waste in bringing life-saving speed safety systems to California cities, yet now we must wait even longer to realize this proven, powerful solution.
