Celebrate the launch of lifesaving speed cameras in San Francisco on March 20

It’s official: San Francisco new speed camera program will launch on Thursday, March 20, 2025. We are ready to celebrate this longfought win for safe streets!
Speed cameras save lives by changing driver behavior, which is crucial given that speeding is the #1 cause of severe and fatal crashes in San Francisco. That’s why Walk SF and traffic victims worked for eight years to pass legislation allowing speed cameras to be used in California.
We’re proud and grateful that San Francisco is the first city in California to pilot this proven technology. We applaud City leaders and agencies for leading the way!
Let’s celebrate this win together – and show that San Franciscans support bold action to make all our streets safe.
You’re invited to two speed camera celebrations on Thursday, March 20:
- A celebration and press conference at Joe DiMaggio Playground in North Beach from 9:30 to 10:30AM with Mayor Lurie, safe streets partners, and advocates like you!
- A happy hour with Mayor Lurie hosted by Walk San Francisco and San Francisco Bay Area Families for Safe Streets from 6:00 to 7:30PM at The Willows at Folsom & 12th in SOMA, just a few blocks from a new speed camera at Folsom & 10th. (The venue is accessible by the 27, 22, 9, and 9R Muni lines. There is also a public parking lot directly next door.)
