October Member Walk: Celebrating a Better Market Street
October 15, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
On Tuesday, October 15, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board will vote on potentially approving the Better Market Street Project, a transformational project for the city’s busiest pedestrian street. Market is home to half a million walkers every single day, but it’s also one of the most dangerous streets.
That’s why the Better Market Street Project will reclaim Market for people. It will remove all private vehicles from the street from Civic Center all the way to the Ferry Building – as soon as January – and improve pedestrian safety at dangerous intersections. It will speed up Muni speeds up to 25% along Market. And it will establish a sidewalk-level protected bike lane to fully protect people biking.
To celebrate (hopefully!) the passage of this years-in-the-making project, we’ll be taking in Market Street with a walk from City Hall all the way to the Ferry Building. Those interested can raise a pint with us at a no-host stop at the Fort Point Beer Co. taproom at the Ferry Building.
Note: it’s possible our departure will be slightly delayed by the SFMTA Board meeting timing. We will start the walk only once the item is voted on at the meeting.
Monthly walks are free to Walk SF members and $10 for non-members. Extreme weather cancels – we’ll still walk in light rain.
