A Hilltop Gardens, Museums, and Parks Exploration

September 4, 2016 @ 8:00 am

Join volunteer walk leader Ilene Goldman, a twenty-five year resident of the Castro, and Master Gardener Fred Bove, of the Corona Heights Community garden, together with Jenny Sotelo from the San Francisco Park Natural Areas Program, for an exploration of Corona Heights, Buena Vista Park, and the Vulcan Stairs.

Your walk will start at a transit friendly location on Market (refer to WHERE below), then head west to the Corona Heights Community Garden in Corona Heights Park. Guest speaker, Fred Bove, will share a history and overview, and highlight the latest news on current neighborhood efforts to improve both the community garden and the park.

Next, you will wind up a ramp from the Community Garden to the Randal Museum, which offers children and adults a place to investigate science, art, with interactive and live animal exhibits at a spectacular site overlooking San Francisco. Guest speaker Jenny Sotelo will join the walk to share information about ongoing restoration efforts at both Corona Heights Park and Buena Vista Park.

Your exploration will continue up a series of steps to the crest of Corona Heights, where you can get up close and personal to a variety of blooming wildflowers, while enjoying breathtaking views of the city in the distance.

Next, take a stroll through scenic neighborhood streets to visit the woodlands of Buena Vista Park, where there will be additional opportunities to enjoy great views. Then, wrap up the day’s exploration by taking the Vulcan Stairs to pass by quaint cottages and interesting landscapes.

The walk will end at Kasa Indian Eatery, at 18th Street and Noe, for an optional lunch.
