Celebrate safer intersections in District 5
July 28, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

‘Daylighting’ is kicking off in District 5: let’s celebrate!
On Monday, July 28 at 12:00PM at the intersection of Broderick and Hayes, Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, the SFMTA, and community groups will celebrate the start of District 5 getting ‘daylighting’ painted at all intersections in the next couple months.
Come get a donut, meet your neighbors, and hear how streets in District 5 are being made safer for everyone! No RSVP required.
‘Daylighting’ prevents 1 in 3 traffic crashes
Daylighting prevents parking at certain parts of the intersection to ensure clear sightlines for everyone.
A new California daylighting law means it’s now illegal for drivers to park within 20 feet of any marked or unmarked crosswalk at the corners where vehicles face the crosswalk.
The SFMTA is painting daylighting zones with red paint at intersections citywide so drivers know not to park there and this important safety solution can help prevent crashes. Learn more about daylighting here.
