Member Walk on June 29: The Lakes and Ponds of Golden Gate Park
June 29, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
Join Walk SF for a walking tour of the 18 (yes, 18!) lakes and ponds of San Francisco. Hidden gems will be revealed! The most improved and those with greatest potential will be noted! We will be head west through the many beautiful paths and trails of Golden Gate Park, going all the way to the Chain of Lakes – the only of the park’s natural lakes – and then back east again to finish at Lloyd Lake at JFK Dr & Transverse Dr with an optional walk back to the walk’s starting point. While there are ample water and bathroom stops, bring food for lunch because there will not be any available along the way.
Note: Five of the ponds are in the San Francisco Botanical Gardens. These are quite beautiful. While the gardens are free to San Francisco residents with proof of residency like a California or other photo ID, they charge non-residents $9 ($6 for youth, seniors, or college students). If you are a not a San Francisco resident you have the option of skipping this section of the walk.
Monthly walks are free to Walk SF members, and $10 for non-members.
Be advised: this seven-mile walk may include uneven paths, dirt trails, and stairways, as well as street terrain. Participants must be in good health, without any mobility limitations, and able to walk for several hours at a steady pace. Extreme weather cancels – we’ll still walk in light rain.
