Speed is the #1 contributor to severe and fatal traffic crashes on our streets. That’s why speed must be the #1 focus of city leaders as they work to end these tragedies.
SFMTA Director Tumlin: Please do all you can to slow our streets.Read or Edit the Petition Dear SFMTA Director Tumlin, Thank you for your commitment to making our streets safe from traffic violence and for your leadership on all fronts during these challenging times. Reducing vehicle speeds is the most powerful way to prevent severe and fatal crashes. That’s why I’m urging you to do everything in your power to Slow Our Streets in 2021. This includes: 1. Quickly establishing the proposed 25MPH “Senior Zones” on Bush, Sunnydale, Geary, 19th Avenue, and Thomas More Way. 2. Launching a comprehensive, data-driven speed management program (as part of the revised Vision Zero Action Strategy) so limited resources can be effectively targeted where speeds are the biggest problem. 3. Dramatically expand left turn calming as a way to slow vehicles and better protect pedestrians in the crosswalk. If we slow our streets, we will immediately save lives.
