Vote yes on Measures B, K, and L for safer streets

YES on Measure B

San Francisco’s streets should be safe for everyone, no matter how you get around. But for San Francisco to design streets that prioritize safety at the scale needed to reduce traffic crashes, it will take significant investment – much more than the City is currently spending.

Measure B asks voters to establish a bond to fund public health infrastructure projects, shelter and housing for homeless families, street safety improvements and road repaving, and public space improvements projects. Within thet $360 million bond, $70 million is designated for street safety upgrades (including safer crosswalks, intersection improvements, and better sidewalks) and $25 million for improved public spaces.

By passing Measure B, we will provide our City with more of the critical funds needed to complete more safety projects that benefit everyone. These are projects like upgrading traffic lights to give pedestrians a head start and more time to cross; adding pedestrian safety zones at intersections to slow down drivers and increase visibility; and installing many more speed humps, protected bike lanes, and traffic calming to keep drivers going safe speeds especially near schools, parks, and senior centers.

YES on Measure K

We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a new oceanfront park by transforming a road to nowhere into a people-first coastal park and promenade.

Measure K asks voters to make permanent – and 7 days a week – car-free space on the Upper Great Highway. This has already been in place on weekends since 2021 as a pilot – and proven incredibly successful, becoming the third most visited park space in San Francisco.

In a city where an average of three people are hit every day while walking, we need significant, safe spaces for all ages and abilities to enjoy without fear of dangerous traffic. JFK Promenade has been such a gift to our city and future generations, and Ocean Beach Park would build on this positive, climate-friendly direction for San Francisco. Learn more and get involved.

YES on Measure L

Safe streets and strong public transit go hand-in-hand, which is why investing in Muni is crucial. When transit service is frequent and reliable, more people take it. This reduces the number of vehicles on our streets, which in turn reduces the threat of dangerous traffic on our streets.

There are thousands more vehicles on our streets because of ride-hailing companies, and these services take a toll on the city’s Vision Zero and Transit-First goals. Measure L asks voters to establish a modest business tax on ride-share companies, like Uber, Lyft, and Waymo, with funds going directly to Muni operations and fare discounts for youth, seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income riders.

SFMTA, which runs Muni and implements safe streets projects, faces a deficit of over $239 million annually starting in 2026 with the potential for drastic Muni service cuts. Measure L will provide some needed help.

When more people take transit, it’s good for our health, too. Fewer cars on the road means cleaner air, water, and less noise pollution. Quality public transit service supports health in many ways, from promoting more activity to ensuring access to health care and other opportunities.
