Walk SF Bids Farewell to Outreach Director Natalie Burdick
After more than five years at Walk San Francisco, in February 2018, Natalie Burdick is stepping down from her role as Outreach Director at Walk SF. Natalie has a long legacy at the organization, helping nurture Walk SF from a small community group to a nationally recognized advocacy group for Vision Zero and walkability.
“We were incredibly lucky to have Natalie on our team for so long to grow our organization into what it is today,” says Jodie Medeiros, executive director.
Natalie is off to another cause, pouring her energies into Sister District Project, a national grassroots group supporting strategic state races to win seats for Democrats. You can catch Natalie walking around San Francisco, and on Sunday, February 18th, she will be leading our February monthly walk!
Thanks in part to Natalie’s dedication and work, Walk to Work Day, the citywide event celebrating the most fun, healthy, and sustainable way to travel, went from several hundred participants to close to 10,000 in 2017. She curated Walk SF’s monthly members walks, turned Walk SF’s signature event Peak2Peak into the city’s premier walking event, and helped make Walk SF’s annual member party into a major fundraiser for the organization.
She organized San Francisco’s first World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, and took part in founding the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Families for Safe Streets. Similar to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the SFBA Families for Safe Streets is a group of volunteers made up of the survivors and family members of victims of traffic violence; it acts as both a peer support group and advocacy body to win the policy changes needed to save lives.
“As someone like myself who was inexperienced in advocacy and legislation, Natalie has held my hand in the entire process of starting our Families for Safe Streets group and taught me so much,” says SFBA FSS co-founder, Julie Mitchell. “Our group would not be where it is today without her compassion and collaboration, and I’m happy that she will remain an active supporter.”
We wish Natalie every success and look forward to crossing paths with her as she walks San Francisco!
