SUMMARY:Rally for safe streets on August 22
DESCRIPTION:A four-year-old child was killed in the crosswalk in San Francisco on August 15\nThis can never happen again.\nWe must stand together to show that this tragedy is unacceptable – and so is inaction by City leaders. Our streets must be made safe for children and all of us. \nWhen: Tuesday\, August 22\, 2023 from 5:00 – 6:00PM\nWhere: The plaza next to Caltrain at 4th & King Streets\nWhat: We will create a memorial for the child and rally for change.\nBring: Stuffed animals to add to the memorial\, and strollers to show solidarity. \nCrossing the street should never be life-or-death. \nThe 4th & King intersection is incredibly dangerous. This piece by KTVU 2 makes it very clear how vulnerable a person is when crossing here. And there are too many intersections just like this across San Francisco. \nSo please stand with us on Tuesday for real change on our streets. Spread the word – here’s a flyer you can share. \nThis is a moment where we must be loud.

SUMMARY:Sign up to flyer in response to the tragedy at 4th & King
DESCRIPTION:Walk San Francisco has three demands of City leaders to fix deadly intersections including 4th and King\, where the fatal crash occurred on August 15. \nCity leaders have yet to commit to any of these asks\, which is where you come in. \nWe’re asking volunteers to help hand out flyers with the goals of getting thousands of people to email City leaders to echo our asks. \nYou can sign up for a shift led by Walk SF\, pick up flyers at our office to hand out on your own time\, or lead your own shift(s). \nWhat happened must be a wake-up call for our City to do more to protect us. We’re going to have to be very loud and insistent so this happens. Because #neveragain. \nThank you for helping us build awareness and action around the tragedy at 4th and King. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Action at 4th & King

SUMMARY:Let's celebrate AB 645\, the speed camera bill\, becoming law!
DESCRIPTION:RSVP NOW\nWhen: Monday\, October 16\, 2023 from 6 – 8PM \nWhere: Back patio of Casements Bar in the Mission\, 2351 Mission Street at 20th. \nWhat: Walk SF is holding a free\, casual gathering on the back patio of Casements to celebrate a huge milestone for safe streets. \nWho: Walk SF members\, members of San Francisco Bay Area Families for Safe Streets\, City Attorney David Chiu and other City leaders\, and hopefully you! Kids are allowed and welcome! \nWhy: On October 13\, Governor Newsom signed AB 645 into law\, which means that San Francisco and five other California cities can now pilot the proven\, lifesaving technology being used around the country: speed cameras. \nThis has been a campaign of Walk SF and Families for Safe Streets since 2017\, when then-Assemblymember David Chiu introduced legislation for speed camera pilot in San Francisco. \nWe are so grateful that Governor Newsom saw the importance of this solution to #SlowOurStreets. Learn more at walksf.org/AB645ISLAW. \nRSVP: Please fill out this quick RSVP. Walk SF will provide light appetizers and a champagne toast. Cash bar. \nNot a Walk SF member? Join now at walksf.org/membership or join at the door. It’s just $40 to join in October because it’s our membership month! \nQuestions? Contact Malena at malena@walksf.org

SUMMARY:Walk with us to celebrate one-year since voters passed Measure J for JFK Promenade
DESCRIPTION:One year ago\, the fate of what’s now known as JFK Promenade was unknown. Losing this large\, safe\, dedicated space for pedestrians would have been devastating. \nBut… that’s not what happened. On November 8\, 2022\, voters passed Measure J with a 63% YES vote! Read more about Walk SF’s work to win a forever JFK Promenade. \nSo join us in walking JFK Promenade on the one-year anniversary of the vote. \nWe’ll meet on Wednesday\, November 8 at 12PM and stroll the entire Promenade together. \nRSVP here\nMeet: At the “yellow dot” at the far eastern end of JFK Promenade (at Conservatory Drive E). \nThe walk: We’ll walk the entire 1.5-mile length (3 miles total) of the JFK Promenade. We’ll go at a medium pace\, returning to the starting by around 1:00PM. \nBonus: We will sell a limited number of ‘I Walk JFK Promenade’ t-shirts at the walk. SUMMARY:Come to the State Capitol with us in support of speed-slowing bill SB 961
DESCRIPTION:Walk San Francisco and San Francisco Bay Area Families for Safe Streets are heading to Sacramento… and you’re invited! \nWe are going to the State Capitol to show strong support for Senate Bill 961 (Intelligent Speed Assistance) at a crucial hearing for the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee. \nWhen: Tuesday\, July 2\, 2024. The hearing begins at 1:30pm. Those riding the bus from San Francisco will leave at 11:00AM with an estimated return to San Francisco by 7:30PM. \nWho: Safe streets advocates like YOU! No need for any experience. Pubic comment at the State Capitol is very short and sweet. Every voice helps us show strong support for this lifesaving bill. \nTransportation & Food: We plan on renting a bus assuming we have enough people; otherwise\, we will carpool or take the train. You are also welcome to meet us at the State Capitol\, and we are helping connect people who need rides from outside of San Francisco. Please indicate your preference below. Walk SF will also provide lunch and snacks for the day. \nRSVP to come to Sacramento at this link. If you have any questions\, contact jodie@walksf.org. Learn more at walksf.org/sb961.
