Walking: An Easy, Fun and Free Way to Improve Your Health

Shape Up SF - Walking Challenge CA PosterWalk San Francisco invites you to take part in this year’s Walking Challenge, Shape Up San Francisco’s 10-week program designed to motivate you, your family, neighbors, and colleagues to get moving!

Create or join a team, set a personal physical activity goal, and track your progress from April 1 to June 7 — it all adds up to meet the goal of walking 1,016 miles as a team – the distance equivalent to walking the entire California coastline.

For information and to register, visit ShapeUpSFWalkingChallenge.org.

To take up the 10-week Walk Challenge, simply create a username and password so that you can log your walk miles and monitor your progress. Whether you log your miles daily or weekly, remember to add all of your physical activity on the website.

Walking, running, dancing, swimming, or skating – it all counts!

If your physical activity isn’t measured in miles, just use the following simple formula: 20 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity (in which your heart rate is elevated) equals one mile of walking.

After you complete the 1,016 miles along the coast of California, your team can choose whether or not to continue with a new challenge across the country and if you are brave enough, around the world!  Plus, Walk Challenge participants are eligible for special prize drawings.

And don’t forget, monthly member walks with Walk SF and your commute on Walk to Work Day can count towards your Walking Challenge goals, too.

Shape Up SF’s Walking Challenge has been recognized by the National League of Cities as a model program to increase physical activity.  To learn more, visit ShapeUpSFWalkingChallenge.org or email shapeupsanfrancisco@gmail.com.
